Small onions, such as cipollini and pearl onions, are an excellent addition to recipes. As a result of being little, recipes are likely to call for several of them. Peeling several little onions can be a pain, but it doesn’t have to be. Briefly blanching them makes peeling them rather simple. Follow these easy steps to make peeling cute onions a cinch.

Pearl onions are little onions that are closely related to leeks.

Cipollini onions, pronounced chip-oh-lee-nee, are sweet, flat, and excellent onions for roasting.

How to Easily Peel Small Onions

 

Prepare a bowl with ice water and set aside.

Cut the roots off of the onions.

Bring a pot of water to a boil and lower onions into the water. To avoid splashing, use a  skimmer or a slotted spoon.

Boil for a minute.

Drain the onions.

Place onions in ice water for a minute to stop the cooking.

Pinch the stems of the onions and the onions will slide out of the peels.
